ABOUT

Rebecca Chu

Putting Young People at the Heart of the Narrative

Based in LA and Singapore, Rebecca Chu is an international, award-winning writer and film producer. Her work centers on coming-of-age, family, and children’s narratives. A mother of three, Rebecca is passionate about nurturing the next generation through heartfelt stories that explore intergenerational bonds, cross-cultural dynamics, and underrepresented communities.

Rebecca is the co-founder of Moonbeam Literary & Media, an agency and production company that creates inclusive stories for young audiences across books, film, TV, and interactive media.  As a 2024 Sesame Workshop Writers’ Room Fellow, she collaborated with the creators of Sesame Street to develop The Brain Trust, an original kids’ TV concept celebrating neurodivergent young superheroes-in-training. She is also a 2025 Fred Rogers Productions Writers’ Neighborhood Fellow. As a filmmaker, Rebecca's acclaimed short films have screened at festivals worldwide, including HollyShorts and Singapore's Bicentennial Showcase CiNE65. She is currently producing a coming-of-age feature film that has earned recognition from The Sundance Institute Producers’ Lab and The Gotham Project Market.

Before pivoting to creating the kinds of stories she wished she had growing up, Rebecca originally built her career as a business leader at Disney and Apple. She holds an MFA from the Peter Stark Producing Program at University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, and an MBA and BA from Stanford University.
